Is the Chase United Club worth its $695 annual fee?
Short answer: the Chase United Club’s $695 fee is covered by four credits alone, Instacart Credit ($240), Free First & Second Checked Bags ($200), Renowned Hotels & Resorts Credit ($200) and JSX Flight Credit ($200), if you actually use them, and Renowned Hotels & Resorts Credit voids hotel elite status on the stays it pays for. The catch is where it pays: $300 of the $1,120 advertised only works through Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United Cardmembers and United Cars (cars.united.com), which voids hotel elite status on those stays.

What it takes to cover the $695 fee
To cover the $695 fee on credits alone you need to reach $695 of the $1,120 advertised, which is 63% of the headline number. How hard that is depends on when and where each credit pays.
Of the $1,120: $390 arrives in monthly, quarterly or half-year chunks that do not roll over, so those two credits need matching spend on schedule, every period, or the money is gone; $300 only pays on bookings made through Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United Cardmembers and United Cars (cars.united.com); $390 pays nothing until you enroll or activate it; $240 is promotional and has an end date.
$400 of the advertised value comes from terms the issuer states ambiguously; the catalog marks those unverified and the audit scores them conservatively.
What you actually reach depends on your own charges: the audit matches every credit against 12 months of real transactions, counts what actually landed on the card toward the fee, and shows the rest as upside.

What makes the Chase United Club’s credits hard to use
- Monthly credits. Rideshare Credit and Instacart Credit: $390 a year, but only if the matching charge lands every month. Five orders in a year on a monthly credit pays out for five months.
- Enrollment required. Rideshare Credit and Instacart Credit pay nothing until enrolled or activated. The audit checks your statement for the issuer’s own credit postings, so an unenrolled credit shows up as exactly that.
- Promotional. Instacart Credit (ends 2027-12-31). The issuer has not promised these recur; the audit scores them while they run.
Beyond the credits: status, lounges and points
- IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite, granted by holding the card. Valued from your observed stays at that chain, and never stacked with status you already hold.
- United Club membership, retail value up to $750 a year. Valued per observed flight day, once across your whole portfolio, credited to the cheapest card that covers it.
- United flight perks: a free checked bag worth $40 each way, for you and up to 1 companion, when the ticket is bought with the card. Counted on flights the card can see you take, and worth nothing once you hold Premier Silver status, which includes them.
- United MileagePlus Premier status support: 1,500 qualifying dollars toward requalification, plus 1 per $15 spent on the card (capped at 28,000 a year). Worth something only while you are actively chasing that status.
What it earns
Headline rates, with the conservative point value the audit uses. Earning below a no-fee 2% cash-back card is worth nothing extra; only the premium over that counts toward the fee.

A verdict on the Chase United Club is never just keep or cancel. The audit scores the cheaper card in the family on your same year of charges. If it clears its fee, the verdict is downgrade; if none does, it is cancel, and the report names the best card it rejected.

Questions about the Chase United Club’s credits
How much are the Chase United Club’s credits worth?
$1,120 a year at face value across seven credits, against a $695 annual fee. Covering the fee on credits alone takes 63% of that. $390 arrives in monthly, quarterly or half-year chunks that expire unused. What you reach depends on your own charges; Worth My Fee scores each credit against 12 months of real transactions.
Which Chase United Club credits expire every month?
Rideshare Credit ($12 a month, $150 a year) and Instacart Credit ($20 a month, $240 a year). Each month’s amount is lost if unused, so the annual figure assumes a matching charge in all twelve months.
Does the Chase United Club’s Renowned Hotels & Resorts Credit honor hotel elite status?
No. It pays only on prepaid bookings through Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United Cardmembers, which makes the portal the merchant of record. Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and IHG treat that as a third-party stay: no elite benefits at check-in, no points, and no qualifying nights toward status. If you hold hotel status, the credit typically costs more per stay than it returns.
Which Chase United Club credits require enrollment or activation?
Rideshare Credit and Instacart Credit. They pay nothing until switched on; the issuer’s own statement-credit postings show whether that has happened.
What is the downgrade option for the Chase United Club?
The Chase United Quest ($350 a year). Worth My Fee scores it on your same year of charges: if a cheaper card clears its fee the verdict is downgrade, and if none does the verdict is cancel.
What does the Chase United Club earn on spending?
5× on United purchases, 2× on all other travel and 2× on dining, and 1× on everything else. Worth My Fee values United MileagePlus at 1.2¢ per point, and counts only the premium over a no-fee 2% cash-back card toward the fee.
