Is the Chase United Quest worth its $350 annual fee?
Short answer: the Chase United Quest’s $350 fee is covered by two credits alone, $200 United TravelBank Credit ($200) and Free First & Second Checked Bags ($200), if you actually use them. The catch is where it pays: $230 of the $1,190 advertised only works through Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United Cardmembers and United Cars (cars.united.com), which voids hotel elite status on those stays.
$1,190 in advertised credits against a $350 fee. Here is every credit, how it is paid out, where it works, and the fine print that decides whether your spending will reach it.

What it takes to cover the $350 fee
To cover the $350 fee on credits alone you need to reach $350 of the $1,190 advertised, which is 30% of the headline number. How hard that is depends on when and where each credit pays.
Of the $1,190: $280 arrives in monthly, quarterly or half-year chunks that do not roll over, so those two credits need matching spend on schedule, every period, or the money is gone; $230 only pays on bookings made through Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United Cardmembers and United Cars (cars.united.com); $280 pays nothing until you enroll or activate it; $180 is promotional and has an end date.
$450 of the advertised value comes from terms the issuer states ambiguously; the catalog marks those unverified and the audit scores them conservatively.
What you actually reach depends on your own charges: the audit matches every credit against 12 months of real transactions, counts what actually landed on the card toward the fee, and shows the rest as upside.

What makes the Chase United Quest’s credits hard to use
- Monthly credits. Rideshare Credit and Instacart Credit: $280 a year, but only if the matching charge lands every month. Five orders in a year on a monthly credit pays out for five months.
- Enrollment required. Rideshare Credit and Instacart Credit pay nothing until enrolled or activated. The audit checks your statement for the issuer’s own credit postings, so an unenrolled credit shows up as exactly that.
- Promotional. Instacart Credit (ends 2027-12-31). The issuer has not promised these recur; the audit scores them while they run.
Beyond the credits: status, lounges and points
- United flight perks: a free checked bag worth $40 each way, for you and up to 1 companion, when the ticket is bought with the card. Counted on flights the card can see you take, and worth nothing once you hold Premier Silver status, which includes them.
- United MileagePlus Premier status support: 1,000 qualifying dollars toward requalification, plus 1 per $20 spent on the card (capped at 18,000 a year). Worth something only while you are actively chasing that status.
What it earns
Headline rates, with the conservative point value the audit uses. Earning below a no-fee 2% cash-back card is worth nothing extra; only the premium over that counts toward the fee.

Questions about the Chase United Quest’s credits
How much are the Chase United Quest’s credits worth?
$1,190 a year at face value across nine credits, against a $350 annual fee. Covering the fee on credits alone takes 30% of that. $280 arrives in monthly, quarterly or half-year chunks that expire unused. What you reach depends on your own charges; Worth My Fee scores each credit against 12 months of real transactions.
Which Chase United Quest credits expire every month?
Rideshare Credit ($8 a month, $100 a year) and Instacart Credit ($15 a month, $180 a year). Each month’s amount is lost if unused, so the annual figure assumes a matching charge in all twelve months.
Does the Chase United Quest’s Renowned Hotels & Resorts Credit honor hotel elite status?
No. It pays only on prepaid bookings through Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United Cardmembers, which makes the portal the merchant of record. Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and IHG treat that as a third-party stay: no elite benefits at check-in, no points, and no qualifying nights toward status. If you hold hotel status, the credit typically costs more per stay than it returns.
Which Chase United Quest credits require enrollment or activation?
Rideshare Credit and Instacart Credit. They pay nothing until switched on; the issuer’s own statement-credit postings show whether that has happened.
What is the downgrade option for the Chase United Quest?
The Chase United Explorer ($150 a year). Worth My Fee scores it on your same year of charges: if a cheaper card clears its fee the verdict is downgrade, and if none does the verdict is cancel.
What does the Chase United Quest earn on spending?
5× on renowned Hotels prepaid bookings, 4× on United purchases and 2× on dining, and 1× on everything else. Worth My Fee values United MileagePlus at 1.2¢ per point, and counts only the premium over a no-fee 2% cash-back card toward the fee.
